Gingerbread people

Last week in class we read The Gingerbread Man. At the back of the book was a gingerbread people recipe. As a shared book activity we used the recipe (see below) to bake gingerbread people and 

other creations. Have a look at our learning in action.....

We turned the oven on bake and set it at a temperature of 160 degrees.

We used one cup of butter.

We used half a cup of honey.

We used half a cup of brown sugar.

We melted the butter in the microwave and then poured it into the bowl with the brown sugar and stirred.

We melted the honey (in the microwave) and poured it into the bowl.

Mason poured one egg into the mixture while Kalaya used a whisk to beat the ingredients.

We measured 4 teaspoons of ground ginger, half a teaspoon of baking powder,

one teaspoon of cinnamon, 

and two and half cups of flour to add to our mixture. 

Kaarl poured the dry ingredients into the bowl while Sydney stirred vigorously!

Our Gingerbread dough was now ready to be rolled out.

We poured flour out on the surface. We used a rolling pin to roll our dough out flat.

We used a gingerbread person cutter to form our gingerbread person.

Then we used a variety of other shapes to bake different gingerbread creations. 

We greased our trays,

and carefully placed our gingerbread baking creations on the trays.

Then we placed the trays in the oven to cook for 10-15 minutes.

Don't forget to used some oven mittens or tea towels when removing your baking from the oven. 

Let the gingerbread people cool down.

Then you can decorate your creations before you.....
