Arbor  Day
Arbor day is a day about planting and caring for trees. The latin word "arbor" means tree.
Arbor day marks the beginning of the planting season and a time to celebrate the many types of trees and plants in our country. It started in the USA in 1872 by a man named J Sterling Morton who was a lover of nature. He used his position and personal efforts to promote the planting of trees on the treeless plains of Nebraska. Over the years Arbor day has been celebrated in Hamilton by planting trees and plants at sites such as Jubilee bush and Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park. We need to care for the trees because they breathe in carbon-dioxide and breathe out air for us.
Trees are very special.

ARBOR DAY
The first Arbor day took place in Nebraska on April 10 1872.
The first Arbor day in New Zealand took place in Greytown, Wairarapa on the 3rd July 1890.
We celebrate Arbor day by planting trees in open places so we can keep the environment beautiful. Tress provide us with shade when it's sunny and makes our lands soil rich. Not only Nebraska and New Zealand participate but also many other countries such as Egypt and Australia.
